I absolutely love living in Murfreesboro. I have been here now since 2002, when I moved to attend college (minus the years we spent in KC in between). I love the 'Boro because it is close enough to Nashville but far enough to still have a small town vibe. The historical town square is one of my favorite places, lined with beautiful trees, historical markers and local businesses. Today Ellie and I checked out City Cafe. I have heard amazing things and had to try for myself!

Breakfast foods are hands down, my favorite choices. I could eat breakfast foods all day long, for every meal. We went about 830, after most people have started their day. It wasn't crowded at all and we got right in. I loved the decor scattered with rustic meets farmhouse meets history on the walls. It has a diner meets cafe vibe to it and you can tell there is a lot of locals that make this their go-to breakfast spot daily. It reminded me of back home in Sharon, what we called the Snack Shop. The same people would come in to their regular tables, eating and talking. I love that atmosphere and that reminder of home.

You are able to seat yourself, so I chose a place in the back that was quite and not as busy. We were greeted by the sweetest waitress. All of the staff I encountered was so friendly, in a way you would expect in the South. I ordered coffee, a western omelet (my usual breakfast choice when out) and hash browns and for Ellie the kids pancake with sausage. The food was to our table in less than ten minutes! Fresh, hot food served quick! That is my kind of place, especially when waiting with a hungry toddler.

The coffee was excellent! Some may say that coffee is just coffee, but I beg to differ. This was so smooth and brewed just right. The omelet was a big portion, and hands down, the best cooked omelet I have every had. The eggs were fluffy, not overdone, but cooked through. The ham was juicy and the veggies were tender and not too crisp (I prefer tender veggies when it comes to omelets). I could have seriously eaten two, just because it was that good. The hash browns were good, you can never go wrong with potatoes for any meal. The biscuits are also an excellent addition. They tasted made from scratch. I cannot attest to the taste of Ellie's food, but she seemed to enjoy it!

The meal was under thirteen dollars for both! Drinks and tax included! I have paid that much for an omelet alone at other establishments. I was very impressed with the service, the food, the prices, and the atmosphere. We will definitely be going back soon, hopefully to try their southern style lunch next!

If you are ever in the 'Boro, I suggest you put this on your list! If you are visiting on Saturdays during the Farmer's Market, just expect a wait!
Until next time....
